Radiant Heat and Comfort
Power-e™ Glass windows provide comfort at lower room air temperatures by increasing the
radiant heat in the interior space. They work by directly warming you and other objects in the
room - not by directly heating the air.
Radiant heat is not new. Water and steam radiators have been used to heat buildings for
years. However, Power-e™ Glass windows improve upon other systems because their profile
room view “sees” and warms all of you and stop building heat loss through the windows. Like
the light from a lamp, Power-e™ Glass windows cast a warm heat that is quickly absorbed and
re-radiated until all of the occupants and room surfaces become evenly comfortable.
Many studies have confirmed that thermal comfort is determined by a combination of radiant
heat and air temperature in a room - air temperature alone is not enough. Thus radiant heating
systems such as Power-e™ Glass windows can keep you warm and comfortable by increasing the
radiant heat in the room - even though the room air temperature is kept lower.
This savings from lower air temperatures can be significant. For example, a 5ºF to 8ºF reduction
in air temperature can mean an additional 8% to 10% energy savings.
